Battlefield sites of Hong Kong, can be seen on a series of short walking tours.Hong Kong was the scene of a short, bloody battle in 1941 lasting 18 days prior to British surrender and a consequent 44 month Japanese occupation.

Tours with transport to the trail heads last appx 4 hours ( with about 3 hours walking) and include Wong Nai Chung Gap Trail, Pinewood Battery and Victoria Peak , Stanle , Sing Mun redoubt and Devil's Peak with Coastal Defence Museum.

Within Victoria Peak lies the Pinewood Battery. Constructed by the British the Battery originally consisted of 2 naval guns to protect the western approaches to Victoria harbour.
Badly damaged during bitter fighting with the attacking Japanese forces on 15 December 1941, the battery was evacuated and the defending Indian soldiers fought on as infantry until the British surrender on Christmas Day 1941.

During this walk your guide will recount the history of the Pinewood Battery and also visit the Tyndareus Stone, which commemorates an extraordinary act of gallantry by British soldiers in 1917.

The start of the walk is reached by taking the spectacular Peak tram to the terminus, with breathtaking views of Victoria harbour. The walk down to Mid-levels is through scenic woodland and a return to Central district is via the stairway next to the Mid-levels escalator; r 800 metres in length and the largest outdoor covered escalator system in the world.
